New Bill Proposed to Protect Babies Born Alive During Abortions

Babies in Australia are being born alive during abortions and left to die.

During a recent speech in the Federal Parliament, George Christensen MP revealed that in Victoria between 2012 and 2016, 12% of late-term abortions resulted in a baby being born alive. Currently these children are denied life-saving medical care.

The Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2021 has been proposed by Mr Christensen as a way to protect abortion survivors. If passed, this legislation will make it mandatory for health care professionals to provide life-saving medical care to babies born alive during abortions.

There are well documented cases of babies who were born alive during an abortion, provided medical care and gone on to live full lives. Gianna Jessen, Melissa Ohden and Claire Culwell are just a few examples.

LifeChoice Australia Managing Director, Rebecca Gosper, said: “LifeChoice Australia wholeheartedly supports the Children Born Alive Protection Bill. There is no excuse for any child to be denied life-saving medical care. The thought of any politician opposing this Bill is shameful.”
